We had so much fun styling table settings with the gorgeous Eve from Dot + Pop in our showroom recently, and we’re very excited to share the finished results!

Drawing inspiration from her refined and modern Australian/Scandi style which can be seen throughout her home renovations, blog and Instagram, Eve selected simple decorative pieces to create 2 table settings with a subtle Christmas theme. No tacky tinsel here! Just a simple wooden Christmas tree and festive poinsettia plant to set the tone, pared back with a palette of neutrals, and a hint of metallic to pull it all together.

We took 5 minutes with Eve and chatted to her about art, interiors and decorating for Christmas…

UI: How would you describe your interior decorating style?

Eve: My interior style is all about modern simplicity and texture. I love using raw materials such as timber, steel, concrete and stone to create a modern and tactile aesthetic. When styling I also lean towards natural materials to create layers, add new tones and to create a homely warm feeling. My go to’s are wools, linen, timber, stone, steel and ceramic; all of these materials create a contemporary aesthetic, which is refined and minimalist. To me, texture is everything when creating a space.

Look #1

This dining setting look was created around the stunning piece of art. I added pops of red and green foliage for interest, kept the accessories minimal and layered charcoal stoneware with brass accents for a little festive pop!

Look #2

Again the art was the man focus in this shot – it’s the standout feature! Due to this I made sure to keep the table setting minimal, with some layering of table wear in darker shades, a textured pot and pop of greenery!

UI: What are some tips on how to set a table for Christmas without looking too tacky?

Greenery is your best friend, use it as a centre piece, pop some in vases or tie some around your cutlery. More is more with fresh flowers and greenery!

Pick a colour palette and try to stick to it. This will keep your table looking modern and not a Christmas explosion!

Hand write a beautiful name tag for each guest, this will add a special personal touch.

Layer the crockery – start with a lovely placemat, stack the plate, side plate and bowl on top of one another, add a linen or fabric napkin, lay the cutlery on top and then if you’re feeling extra special add a sprig of rosemary!

Lastly add some festive touches – candles, your own special Christmas decorations, bon-bons, and some touches of gold!

UI: How will you be celebrating Christmas?

Every second year we go to Tasmania, which is where I grew up, to spend Christmas with my family. Christmas Day is very laid back, we have an outdoor long late lunch with delicious food, wine and lots of chocolate. Hopefully it’s gorgeous and sunny and we will spend the afternoon at the beach, making room for more food!
